Andy Serkis, who portrayed Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, has revealed exciting details about the sequel’s production. During the ACE Superhero Comic Con and an interview with Popverse, Serkis discussed the filming schedule and script progress for The Batman Part II.
Filming and Release Schedule
Serkis announced that filming for The Batman Part II is expected to begin in early 2025. He stated, “If you do the math, it’ll be a year and a half after that,” aligning with the movie’s planned release date of October 2, 2026.
Praise for Matt Reeves and Anticipation for the Sequel
He praised director Matt Reeves, calling him an “extraordinary filmmaker,” and expressed confidence in the upcoming script. “I thought what he did with the first film was pretty amazing,” Serkis remarked. He also shared his excitement about working with Robert Pattinson again, who will return as Batman.
Script and Creative Direction
While plot details remain under wraps, Serkis confirmed that Reeves is “working really hard on the script.” The sequel is in development amidst changes in DC’s creative leadership. However, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has assured fans that Reeves will retain full creative control over his Batman universe, which will remain separate from the main DC Universe.
Upcoming Spin-Off and Projects
Fans can also look forward to The Penguin, a spin-off series starring Colin Farrell, set to premiere later this year. The show will further explore Gotham City as established in The Batman.
Andy Serkis’ Other Projects
In addition to his role in The Batman, Andy Serkis is gearing up for another major project. He will star in and direct The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, reprising his iconic role as Gollum after more than a decade.
