Have you ever wondered if the Marvel superheroes from the Fantastic Four inspired the latest animated comedy, Despicable Me 4? Here’s what we know about it.

Meet the Mega Minions

In Despicable Me 4, we are introduced to Mega Minions, a new group with special powers who play a big role in the film. This time, the focus shifts back to Gru and his lovable Minions. The movie expands the Minion group, with some joining Gru in witness protection while others become part of the Anti-Villain League.

How Were Mega Minions Created?

The Mega Minions weren’t born with their powers. The Anti-Villain League created them using a special super serum. Silas, the leader, wanted to prepare for strong villains by testing the serum on Minions instead of humans. This resulted in only a few Mega Minions being created because some of the pods used in the transformation were destroyed.

Meet the Mega Minions

Five Mega Minions were created in the film, including some familiar faces and new ones:

  • Dave: Gains super strength and can break out of his pod.
  • Mel: Uses laser vision to cut through anything.
  • Tim: Can stretch his body like elastic.
  • Jerry: Transforms into a rock-like form and can eat anything.
  • Gus: Can fly with a cone-shaped head.

A Nod to the Fantastic Four?

Co-director Chris Renaud mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that the Mega Minions’ powers were loosely inspired by Marvel’s Fantastic Four. For instance, Jerry’s rock-like abilities are similar to The Thing, Tim’s stretchy powers are like Mr. Fantastic, and Mel’s laser vision resembles Cyclops from X-Men.

What’s Next for the Mega Minions?

While Illumination hasn’t confirmed the future of the Mega Minions, fans are excited about the possibility of seeing more of these superhero-like characters. Their potential for a spin-off or a new direction in the franchise is huge. With their introduction in Despicable Me 4, there’s plenty of room for their stories to grow in future films, possibly even in a Minions 3!

In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see if these mighty little heroes will get their own adventure.
