When you’re on a plane, following simple rules can make the flight safer and more pleasant for everyone. A flight attendant recently shared the worst behavior some passengers exhibit, which can put everyone at risk.
Heather Poole, a seasoned flight attendant, explained that the most frustrating thing passengers do is unbuckle their seat belts when the seatbelt sign is off. Even when the sign is off, the plane can still hit sudden turbulence, causing it to drop sharply and unexpectedly.
With 28 years of experience, Heather knows that turbulence can strike without warning, leading to a much bumpier ride than expected. She mentioned that there is often a big difference in turbulence felt at the front and back of the plane. Sometimes, the back of the plane is “rocking and rolling,” and she has to ask the pilots to turn the seatbelt sign back on for safety.
Having the seatbelt light on helps remind passengers to stay buckled up. It’s especially important for parents to keep their sleeping babies off the floor during turbulence.
Heather also shared that some passengers decide they need something from the overhead storage as soon as the seatbelt sign comes back on, putting everyone at risk. She even knows a pilot who keeps the seatbelt sign on during flights with expected turbulence to ensure safety.
One of the most annoying things, according to Heather, is when passengers order hot drinks during turbulence. This can be very dangerous if the plane suddenly shakes.
Her advice to avoid being one of the worst passengers is simple: keep your seatbelt on. It can make the difference between a bumpy ride and hitting your head on the ceiling.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, a reminder from your flight attendant: Keep your seatbelt on. Thank you. Have a nice day,” she wrote.
