You won’t see John Cena in the wrestling ring much longer. The moment we all knew would come has finally arrived, and it’s leaving fans with a mix of emotions.
John Cena, a cornerstone of wrestling, has announced his retirement from the WWE. During the ‘Money in the Bank’ event in Toronto, Canada, the 47-year-old wrestler and actor took to the ring with a microphone to share his decision with the crowd.
A Bittersweet Announcement
Cena reflected on his journey, recalling the tough times when “no one knows your name, nobody wants to be your friend,” and expressing gratitude to “the most dedicated, hardcore fans who stand by your side.” He told the cheering crowd, “We are gonna build so many unforgettable lasts.”
He revealed that 2025 would mark his final year in the WWE, stating, “The 2025 Royal Rumble will be my last. The 2025 Elimination Chamber will be my last, and I’m here tonight to announce that in Las Vegas, WrestleMania 2025 will be the last WrestleMania I compete in. I know, I know, I know that’s a lot to take in.”
A Legacy of Gratitude
As he spoke, the audience responded with chants of “thank you, Cena,” which he called “an incredible gesture of kindness.” With emotion in his voice, he thanked the fans, saying, “Thank you so much for letting me play in the house you built for so many years.”
Cena then issued a playful challenge to his fellow wrestlers, saying, “Hurry up and come get some… because the last time is now.”
A Stellar Career
John Cena joined WWE in 2001 and quickly became one of its most popular stars. Although he started wrestling part-time in 2018, he has remained a prominent figure in the wrestling world. Beyond the ring, Cena has taken on various acting roles, even making a memorable appearance at the Oscars in a nearly nude stunt.
More Than a Wrestler
Outside of wrestling and acting, Cena is renowned for his work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he has met hundreds of kids who wished to see him. He’s also known for being a genuinely nice person to fans who approach him respectfully in public.
As we prepare to say goodbye to John Cena in the ring, his legacy of unforgettable moments and heartfelt connections with fans will continue to inspire for years to come.
