The conflict between Patekar and Bhansali arose during the filming of Khamoshi: The Musical. In an interview with The Lallantop, Patekar admitted that his well-known temper, combined with Bhansali’s rumored short temper, led to frequent clashes. One significant argument occurred over a scene where Patekar’s character, who is deaf, is playing cards while his wife, also deaf, suffers a heart attack behind him. Bhansali wanted Patekar to turn around as if sensing the distress, but Patekar found this illogical.
Patekar explained, “How would I know what’s happening behind my back? Bhansali said there is an unspoken bond that a couple shares, but I needed a concrete reason to understand the scene.” He laughed and added, “He hasn’t worked with me again.”

Despite their disagreements, Patekar acknowledged Bhansali as a talented director. He expressed regret that their professional fallout affected their personal relationship. “Films come and go, but our memories stay with us forever,” Patekar said, emphasizing that he wished they could have remained friends.
