Prince William is stepping into the spotlight with a new documentary series that focuses on a cause close to his heart: ending homelessness. Unlike other royal documentaries, this one will highlight the efforts of the Homewards program to tackle homelessness in the UK.

A New Documentary on Homelessness

The upcoming ITV documentary series, titled “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” will showcase the Prince of Wales’ mission to combat homelessness. This two-part series will feature two 60-minute episodes, airing exclusively on ITV and ITVX in the autumn. While the exact release date is still under wraps, it’s expected to premiere between September and November.

What the Documentary Covers

The documentary will delve into the first year of the Homewards program, a five-year initiative launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in June 2023. The series will follow the program’s progress in six key locations: Sheffield, Aberdeen, Christchurch and Poole, Lambeth, Bournemouth, Newport, and Northern Ireland. It will highlight the dedicated team of advocates and project leaders working on innovative solutions to end homelessness.

Behind the Scenes

Prince William has teamed up with award-winning director Leo Burley, known for his work on “The Real Mo Farah” and “My Dad, the Peace Deal, and Me.” The series is produced by Mindhouse, with Arron Fellows as the executive producer. Director Burley has revealed that the documentary will feature stories of people who never expected to face homelessness and their reactions to Prince William’s initiative.

“From street homelessness in Newport to families in temporary accommodation in Sheffield, and youth homelessness in Aberdeen, the documentary paints a picture of homelessness across the UK today,” Burley shared.

Prince William’s Motivation

Prince William’s dedication to fighting homelessness has deep roots. His mother, Princess Diana, frequently took him and Prince Harry to visit homeless shelters, instilling in them a strong sense of compassion and awareness. This early exposure inspired Prince William to become a patron of Centrepoint, a charitable organization dedicated to helping homeless youth.

In 2009, Prince William and Centrepoint CEO Seyi Obakin spent a night sleeping on the streets to raise awareness about homelessness. This challenging experience, which included almost being run over by a street sweeper, gave the Prince a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding homelessness, such as drug abuse and mental health problems.

Prince William’s new documentary aims to shine a light on the ongoing efforts to end homelessness and inspire others to join the cause. With his commitment and the support of the Homewards program, there’s hope for a future where everyone has a place to call home.
