In the movie, Baldwin, Penn, and Fox played soldiers whose characters didn’t get along. To keep things realistic, Penn told Baldwin they couldn’t be friends with Fox off-screen either. This was part of Penn’s intense approach to acting, known as method acting, where actors stay in character even when the cameras aren’t rolling.
Breaking the Rules
Despite Penn’s strict advice, Baldwin didn’t follow it. He went up to Michael J. Fox and complimented his work on the TV show Family Ties. This friendly gesture went against Penn’s instructions to keep up the animosity between their characters.
